Transport Canada documents recently released clearly reveal the intention behind travel restrictions for unvaccinated Canadians as purely one of pressure to increase vaccine uptake, and not to combat any valid medical risks associated with the travel sector.
In a brief prepared in November 2020 titled “Risk of COVID-19 Transmission Aboard Aircraft,” the department confirms that “the risk of spread of COVID-19 amongst passengers while traveling aboard aircraft appears to be low” citing an October 2020 press release from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) which stated a 1 in 27 million rate of flight-related transmission.
Despite this, a memorandum signed by Transportation Minister Alghabra in October 2021, stated the desired ‘indirect benefit’ of the mandates as one that “should act as a catalyst to increase Canada’s overall vaccination rate.” while discussing the challenge posed by the remaining eligible Canadians who are still not fully vaccinated. This coming weeks after they were already aware of the above noted risks of 1:27 million.
These vaccine mandates, both for travel and employment, along with the vaccine passports, are seen as a success in driving vaccine uptake by public health officials, regardless of their previous admissions that vaccinating does not stop transmission. As stated by Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam in February, when speaking of the increase in vaccination uptake post-mandate, “There’s now obvious evidence that they (mandates) work”.
Several lawsuits have emerged that argue against these mandates. The Attorney General is attempting to have these thrown out citing the suspension of mandates June 20th, while ignoring the comments by the Liberal government stating that they may be reinstated at any time, at their discretion. That said, the issue is clearly not resolved until the legality of these mandates are addressed in their entirety, once and for all.
How many Canadians have felt coerced to get vaccinated because of visiting their loved ones, keeping their hard-earned jobs, supporting their families, or simply maintaining the freedom to travel that they had enjoyed before? And when they are injured or suffer side effects they are ignored and provided with no recourse or compensation.
Freedom of travel is the right of all Canadians and legal residents. Vaccination is a choice and informed consent is a legal requirement. It always has been and must remain so.

my 27-year-old nephew suffered a stroke 20 days after receiving the booster, he died, autopsy says they found blood clots. My father died 20 days after my nephew died and they did not allow me to fly to be with my family at that painful moment. It’s been 7 months since my tragedy and they still don’t allow me to travel because I didn’t take the genetic experiment and they demand an application (arrive canada) which I don’t accept the terms 😢😢😡.
