Amy Hamm, a Vancouver nurse and mother of two, has filed two human rights complaints with the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, over discrimination by her former employer, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), and the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
The complaints are in response to her professional discipline and termination, over public comments she made.

In a significant victory for free speech, the Ontario Court of Appeal has ruled in favour of a former teacher, Carolyn Burjoski, allowing her to move forward with a defamation lawsuit against the Waterloo Regional District School Board and their former chair, Mr. Scott Piatkowski. Her defamation case surrounds the WRDSB and former chair labelling her “transphobic over her concerns about the age-appropriateness of certain library books discussing gender transition and sexual identity.
