MP’s Vote to Release all Canada’s COVID Vaccine Contracts
Our Department of Health has signed contracts with seven separate Covid vaccine manufacturers since 2021. The secrecy of these contracts has been a source of controversy. Despite a multitude of requests, we’ve consistently been told they are ‘proprietary’. We do know that 238 million doses were ordered through Pfizer Canada, with 30 million doses yet to be received.
Recently MPs voted in favour of forcing the Department of Public Works to release the details of all contracts for investigation, including the $5 billion dollar Pfizer contract.
Pfizer responded with veiled threats; alluding Canada may lose its reputation with foreign investors should any contract details be released. The President of Pfizer Canada, Najah Sampson, called it an abuse of power, saying it would set a “precedent with unintended consequences on Canada’s reputation,” and “would send a strong message to business partners and companies looking to invest that Canadian confidentiality protections may not be binding.”
The agreed upon conditions restrict access to the 11-member Public Accounts Committee only, in seclusion and with no access to electronics or notes. Regardless, Pfizer executives say the contract contains secret details even MPs should never see. MPs argued that they have a right to know, calling attempts to block access “outrageous” adding “what is so damaging to you or the government that allowing Members of Parliament to privately review them would be such a concern?” Trudeau ordered members of his cabinet to swear an oath of secrecy as a condition of viewing the contracts.
It’s easy to lose count of the number of ways Trudeau has betrayed the trust of his position, and of the Canadian people. Freely handing over unimaginable sums of taxpayer money in clandestine agreements with big Pharma is just another in a long list. What exactly did he agree to?!
Our cost-per-jab has never been disclosed, with prices ranging from $14 (EU) to $19.50 (USA). A December 2022 Auditor General report showed Canada to be in the range of $30 per dose, with $1 billion doses already expired.
We will continue to fight for truth and accountability.
