Misinformation on Social Media for Bill S-233

 
 

There has been much talk of Bill S-233 recently in the media/social media regarding Universal Basic Income. Concerns have been raised that this proposed legislation may affect unvaccinated individuals.

The proposed bill does not mention the word vaccinated once. It is simply a bill to set aside a year for the finance minister to table legislation pertaining to the proposed policy. Once the legislation is tabled it would be subject to passing in both the House of Commons and the Senate. Then if the bill passes, and if it infringes on Canadians Charter rights, it would be subject to challenges up to the Supreme Court of Canada.

At this time Bill S-233 is simply a Bill to propose legislation (within a year) related to Universal Basic Income.

While we understand that in the future, this Bill could encompass one’s vaccine status, this post was based solely on how the proposed legislation currently reads
