Members of Parliament and Freedom Protests

Jul 25, 2022 | Blog, General News

An article dated June 2022, from CTV News discusses the Conservative parties’ approach to possible protests in the city of Ottawa. Interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen has allowed for her Members of Parliament to meet with protestors if they so wish. This should never have been a question of allowing or not allowing. Individual MPs serve their constituents regardless of partisan politics. It is their duty and responsibility to serve the Canadian people. There has been increasing negative media coverage of the possibility of continuing civil actions within the Ottawa area this summer. We reiterate that lawful protests are a guaranteed Charter right. It is incumbent on our elected officials to ensure these liberties are protected. During the freedom convoy the Liberal party line, led by the Prime Minister, seemed to be ignore, insult, discredit, falsify, and refuse to communicate. What politicians need to understand is that so called "Freedom movements" represent every voting ideology of the citizenry. This approach does nothing to advance the interests of a democratic society. We stand with all Canadians who exercise their Charter rights and encourage meaningful dialogue between all involved.
