Let's not kid ourselves, mandates are still in place!!

On June 20th the federal government suspended the vaccine mandates for domestic and international travellers, federal employees, and employees of federally regulated industries.

Despite this, the federal government has not yet lifted the mandates for cross border truck drivers. The transport minister claims the policy remains an “important tool” to protect against COVID. He further rationalizes it by stating the United States has a similar policy in place.

So… if the government is going to cite US policy as a justification for unconstitutional vaccine mandates against truckers, then how can they justify a mask policy for domestic travel when the US courts struck it down? Seems contradictory.

Further, the requirements upon returning to Canada have not changed for the unvaccinated travellers, who are still required to quarantine for 14 days and complete the mandatory testing, while vaccinated travellers do not.
This seems pointless, as we know both can still transmit the virus.

And it appears that the mask policy only applies on domestic planes and interprovincial rail travel. Yet if someone is flying to another country it doesn’t apply?

Added to this, some federal employees, able to return to work until the government sees fit to reinstate vaccine mandates, still must wear masks in their workplaces despite there being no mask requirements in non-federal businesses and industries. More double standards.

The illogical, contradictory, and hypocritical nature of these statements needs to end. It is misleading to the Canadian people. These policies seem to remain simply as a punitive measure against the Freedom Convoy truckers that embarrassed the federal government on the international stage and the employees whom they are able to control.
