Federal Court of Canada Orders Minister of Environment & Climate Change, Guilbeault to Pay Rebel News Founder $20,000 and Unblock him on X

Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Steven Guilbeault, has lost in the lawsuit brought forward against him by Rebel News Founder Ezra Levant, after he blocked Mr. Levant’s access to official government posts issued on the X platform site managed by Guilbeault.

In a legal challenge brought forward more than two years ago, Mr. Levant argued that being refused access to Mr. Guilbeault’s posts on X (formerly Twitter) meant that he was unable to engage in debate on “matters of public concern”, stating that “this constituted a violation of his rights.”

The lawsuit cited that social media platform X, with its estimated 192 million users, “functioned as a modern public square, and that the defendants’ actions constituted a violation of free expression.”

Mr. Levant went on to say that “unlike private sector cancel culture, this violates constitutional rights including freedom of speech and freedom of the press”. “Government Twitter accounts, especially those of cabinet ministers, provide important information to the public, and also allow the public to reply and interact with the government.”

In the recent ruling, Federal Court Justice Russel Zinn ordered Minister Guilbeault to pay Mr. Levant $20,000 towards his legal fees and to unblock him on X for the duration of his appointment as Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

This is typical of how we are seeing our government respond in recent years. Apparently, it is easier to block, ignore or gaslight those with alternate views, rather than engage in mature discussion or debate with them. What we are witnessing at all levels is the cancel-culture of silencing and erasing dissenting opinions, and the subsequent death of our freedom of speech.

We must support these few alternative news agencies that continue to push back against censorship to bring us truth, in stark contrast to the lies spewed forth by mainstream media platforms.

Freedom of speech stands at the core of everything it means to be a Canadian. Without it, all hope of regaining democracy is lost.

Stand and speak your truth! Know your rights. Don’t allow them to silence us.

Good on the court. Too bad that the taxpayer likely will pay the fine. Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Steven Guilbeault, deserves to be fired along with the entire cabinet. A ‘wolf’ in a Liberal Party suit, this self-proclaimed socialist. Mind you, there’s merit in this confession of ideology.
