Emergencies Act Inquiry Hearings Recap - Week Three

At the end of week three it should be clearer than ever that the invocation of the Emergencies Act was completely unjustified.

This week concluded input from former Chief, Mr. Peter Sloly (cont’d from week 2), and brought new testimony from Chris Barber, lawyer Keith Wilson, Tom Marazzo, Tamara Lich, Jeremy Mackenzie, Chris Deering, convoy road supervisors and others.

We heard detailed evidence regarding the fund-raising accounts and extensive efforts to block distribution of the monies raised, despite confirmation that the vast majority of these funds were donated by supporting Canadians (demonstrating that the ‘fringe minority’ was anything but) and not from foreign influences, as alluded to.

We heard about the fictitious nation Diagolon, a meme created by Jeremy Mackenzie, and the role this meme played in justification of the use of the EA. As described by Jeremy, and further supported by Tom and others: this alone should be investigated as “the single most embarrassing and grotesque intelligence failure in national history.”

We also heard from veteran Chris Deering, describing the abuse he suffered at the hands of OPS, despite having shared details of his chronic pain and injuries from his years of service and after submitting peacefully to arresting officers. Chris, along with other veterans and peaceful protestors, were subjected to severe mistreatment and abuse that can only be described as unnecessary and disgusting.

We heard from convoy organizers regarding efforts to maintain open communication with authorities. They shared their motivations – heartfelt messages from citizens across Canada harmed by the mandates. They outlined their primary message to remain peaceful and supportive throughout. We also heard of the many officers who reached out in support.

What we did not hear again this week is any evidence providing validity to the use of the EA. Halfway through the inquiry the only facts to be substantiated thus far fully demonstrate the peaceful and legal qualities of the convoy and its participants, and highlight the gross manipulation of facts necessary to justify the actions taken by authorities.

Stay tuned for more, the truth is becoming clear.
