Defense Minister & Department of National Defence, Sued By Information Commissioner Over Failure to Release Covid Policy Records

In recent years there has been no shortage of our government concealing evidence of their activities; gaslighting the people of Canada without any meaningful accountability. Sadly, there is no end in sight as we share yet another example.

An access to information request received in 2022 asked for information pertaining to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) “COVID-19 vaccination mandate and public health measures (including, but not limited to, masking, quarantine, physical distancing, air quality assessments, infrastructure assessments).”

In response the Department of National Defence (DND) requested an extension, saying it would take time to compile the records; a deadline which they themselves requested and promptly ignored.

A complaint was filed with the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) ending with the Information Commissioner, Caroline Maynard, issuing an order for DND to comply by December 2023. This date also passed without acknowledgement.

The requestor then joined forces with more than 450 other CAF members, filing two significant lawsuits for damages resulting from these mandates. An effort we fully support.

The Information Commissioner has also filed a lawsuit of her own against DND and Defence Minister Bill Blair for refusing to comply, showing their obvious disdain for her office.

The notice of application stated, “The Minister’s ongoing violation of his legal duty to implement the Commissioner’s binding Order issued under the Act is contrary to the law,” calling it an “abuse of process” undermining the credibility of the system.

In addition to refusing to release the records above, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Wayne Eyre also has yet to acknowledge a recent ruling by the Military Grievances External Review Committee (MGERC) which labelled the vaccine mandate as “not in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice” and a breach of the Charter Rights of the grievers.

It would seem that almost every branch of government is trying to hide what they’re doing from the very people who gave them the power they eagerly flaunt.

Why?

What will it take for Canadians to stand together and demand accountability?
