Ontario Children’s Aid Society Statistics
For the 2019-2020 fiscal year Ontario’s Children’s Aid Society received 133000 calls and referrals,
76000 of which required investigations.
According to their website those referrals came largely from law enforcement, schools, other Children’s Aid Societies, self (mother/father/child), and community caregiver/professionals.
The public health measures that continue to keep children out of school makes it more difficult to identify signs of physical and emotional abuse or neglect.
Children are having less interaction with teachers and other professionals who may be able to identify issues and make referrals to Children’s Aid Society.
The 2020/2021 numbers are not yet available.
1. If there is an increase in referrals it shows that children are suffering more under the public health measures.
2. If there is a decrease in referrals it means that children may not be getting the help they need.
