Freedom of Expression hindered on Canada Day

This is not the Canada we know and love!!
Canada Day in Ottawa is normally a time to celebrate our great country. What was seen this year was anything but a true celebration. The traditional Snowbird fly over cancelled. Ice Cream trucks told to move due to enhanced bylaws for traffic. Heavy police presence with scanners seen in videos searching toddlers prior to entering a secure area. Police laying charges against people writing messages with sidewalk chalk or threatening charges for people carrying signs of democracy.
A direct quote from the City of Ottawa’s press release on June 29th regarding Canada Day celebrations states; “The City upholds those values: a diversity of minds, perspectives, cultures and lived experiences, and denounces any displays of hate and racism.” However, actions by enforcement clearly were different than the statement.
Canadians were subject to diversity, only if it was approved diversity. One must ask why people were not allowed to carry Canadian Flags onto Parliament Hill on the National Holiday? Airport style security stations were set up to gain access to the limited space on Parliament Hill and Canadian flags were not allowed.
Once again, the government continues to trample on Canadians guaranteed rights!!
