Toronto Police Service Rescinding their Vaccination Policy for Serving Members

For months over 200 Toronto Police officers and civilian employees, have been on unpaid leave because of their individual decisions to not be vaccinated. There were several police services who implemented mandatory vaccination while many did not.

This raises many questions. If all police services in Ontario are subject to the Police Services Act, and all officers are guaranteed the same fundamental freedoms under the Charter, then why is there no consistency across employers? Did some employers recognize the possible legal implications of such a policy and choose to protect their officers’ rights? Did other employers ignore these rights? Were these decisions political based on the predominant ideologies within various municipalities? Why are new hires still required to be fully vaccinated?

Police on Guard stands by all officers and civilian employees, that have lost employment as a result of these unlawful mandates. We also support their return to work immediately as well as financial reparation for lost wages.
