No Inquiry for Foreign Interference Says Former Governor General

David Johnston, well known as the “Special Rapporteur” appointed by Trudeau when accusations of foreign interference reached a level he could no longer avoid.
Notable amongst Johnston’s credentials are former Governor General (during which he made many trips to China), member of the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation (who accepted and then denounced Chinese donations), and long-time friend of the Trudeau’s, with joint family gatherings dating back to when Justin was just a boy.
There was little surprise when he was selected as the ‘perfect’ candidate for the task of clearing JT’s name. Really, who could possibly be more neutral and unbiased than someone with long-standing ties to the person being investigated?
He was tasked with determining if a public inquiry is justified, after weighing all of the evidence. His report declared a resounding ‘No’. Not because his exhaustive search found no evidence. On the contrary, he did not review all of the evidence, nor did he declare that the concerns raised weren’t worthy of further investigation. His reasoning was that the intelligence was classified and could not be made available to the public. Yet there have been no recommendations for other judicial review proceedings.
He continually referred to reviewing “the information available at the time”; a vague statement implying that he did review all that he was given but perhaps not everything was made available. Johnston later admitted that he lacked the time to go through everything but assured us he saw enough, “I can’t tell you that we saw everything that one would like to have seen, with perhaps more time, but we were never refused access to any documents and therefore we were confident we came to conclusions based on facts.”
Since releasing his report, he has resigned, uncomfortable with the political entanglements. Funny that a review of political interference could get so darned political.
An investigation is warranted, of that we have no doubt, the evidence is there. When will the people demand the transparency promised by our government? When will we say no more?
Speak up while you still have the freedom to do so.
