Judge releases Tamara Lich on bail after detention “clearly inappropriate”

Ontario Superior Court Judge Andrew Goodman has granted Tamara Lich bail after her arrest on a Canada Wide Warrant for allegedly breaching her conditions of no contact with fellow convoy organizers.
It has been our position from day one that the Canada Wide Warrant along with the arrest for breaching her conditions, were inappropriate and not normal procedure in relation to her charges.
The reason behind no contact conditions being placed on an accused is to prevent the continuation of the offence one has been arrested for.
For the Crown to even imply that a 3 second interaction between Lich and other convoy leaders would constitute a breach of this nature was grasping at straws to say the least, especially when she was in the presence of her lawyers as stipulated in her original bail conditions.
Judge Goodman ruled during the bail review that preceded the bail hearing that the previous court had made “erroneous” conclusions and “misapprehended” the evidence against Lich when deciding she broke her bail conditions on July 8.
He also added that he was not aware of any other legal case in Canada “in the past 25 years” where the Crown recommended “a maximum sentence of 10 years for mischief over $5,000, or even a penitentiary sentence for that matter.”
This should be raising red flags to everyone, as it’s crystal clear that Lich is being made an example of what happens when you stand up against a government who is trampling on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Rule of Law
This decision by Judge Goodman serves the publics best interest in this matter and for now, has righted the wrong that has come before.
