In response to James’ planned protest Holy Names High School has cancelled in class learning for Friday February 11th. The school has cited concerns regarding the protest and traffic congestion.
James has advised Police on Guard that when he attempted to return to school for his fourth period class today he and his mom knocked on the principal’s door and they were not welcomed but instead, James was yelled at with fingers pointing at him and escorted out of the school. There was no constructive communication whatsoever. At this point James is unsure if he has been suspended or expelled.
Police on Guard will continue to stand with James as he exercises his fundamental and guaranteed freedoms. James has advised that the protest will be going ahead as scheduled. If you are in the Windsor area you are invited to stand with James in love, unity, and prayer.
Here is the statement provided to parents and students from the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board:
Hello,
This message is to inform you that due to anticipated protests scheduled for tomorrow, we will be asking all students and staff at Holy Names Catholic High School to transition to online learning on Friday, February 11.
This decision was made by the school board after consultation with the Windsor Police Service who anticipate that protesters may be attending the school to support planned student walkouts.
The decision is being made out of an abundance of caution, as well as to help our students and staff avoid the inconvenience of anticipated traffic congestion in the neighbourhood that may result.
School staff were notified about this decision prior to the end of school today and have been given instructions on how to conduct their classes virtually tomorrow.
Students who already have devices are expected to accept invitations from their teachers to join each class’s Google Meet throughout the day Friday to attend synchronously, and follow their regular four period schedule times. Those without devices with cameras should go to their Google Classrooms for asynchronous tasks that they can work on at home.
We anticipate a return to normal operations on Monday, February 14.
As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate our way through this situation.
PS – Please do not reply to this message.
Sincerely,
The WECDSB
