At the end of week two, it should be getting very clear to those whom are paying attention, that the invoking of the Emergencies Act was unjustified, extremely heavy handed and used to convey a message rather than properly address an “emergency” that never was.
We now know of some of the complaints from residents of the atrocities of the protest. Including Uber eats taking longer than usual, micro aggressions felt from protestors giving residents mean looks and felt (perceived) violence that has not been substantiated through means of modern articulation or evidence.
A senior OPP intelligence officer testified that there was no evidence of terroristic activity or foreign influence, ideological motivated extremists, political violence, etc.
Many of those who were arrested and released without charges were driven outside the downtown area to rural parts of the city and let go. There were no amenities available in the area and this tactic was not part of any operational plans the Police had drafted.
Perhaps the most shocking moment of the week occurred when OPP Inspector Beaudoin’s resolution plan, very similar to that drafted by convoy leaders to bring about a resolution favorable to all stakeholders in the matter, made it to the cabinet and the Prime Minister and was rejected in favor of invoking the Emergency Act the following day.
Stay tuned, there’s lots more to come.
